Quick Escape: La Union with the Barkada (+ My Sister!)
After a long week of adulting and a 15-hour shift, I jumped straight into a weekend getaway with my high school barkada and for an extra twist, my sister tagged along. Spontaneous? Yes. Slightly chaotic? Always.
Destination: La Union... with a Side of Baguio
We hit the road early, running on excitement, caffeine, and vibes. We were expecting a 5-hour drive, but we had an unexpected detour to Baguio. We then decided to have a quick pasalubong runs. Good thing there's no traffic, just a long stretch of highway and barkada banter. I was running on zero sleep and dealing with abdominal cramps (rude). A few hours later, we were back on the road with strawberries, fresh vegetables, and enough local treats for pasalubong.
Arrival in La Union: Food First, Always
We finally arrived at our Airbnb and did what all good road warriors do: eat. For lunch, we had chicken feet adobo, and chorizo de Cebu. Then we all crashed for a well-earned nap.
By late afternoon, we were back on our feet and headed for a quick beach dip. And that sunset? Absolutely stunning! Fiery orange skies melting into the ocean. Easily one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen.
Dinner Time = Grill Time
Dinner turned into a mini feast: barbecue, hotdogs, and the showstopper inihaw na bangus stuffed with tomatoes and onions. We were all in our element. Grilling, laughing, swatting away the smoke, and vibing like pros.
The Night-Out That Never Happened
We had big plans for a night out. Maybe some drinks, maybe a little dancing. But plot twist: we passed out like your ultimate millennial titas before anything even started. No shame. Sleep > shots.
Early Morning Feels
At 3 or 4AM (thanks, body clocks), Sharyn, Kath, and I were already up, coffee ad cup noodles in hand. We had a quiet early breakfast and then headed out for another beach walk and photo op before the sun turned up the heat.
We planned to surf, but I had to skip it. My mom had been texting me nonstop, reminding me not to try anything crazy because I’m adventurous but can’t swim. Fair enough, Mom. I’ll behave (for now).
Before We Left...
We had lunch at a local restaurant and dropped by a cathedral in La Union. There’s a belief that if it’s your first time visiting a church, you can make a wish so of course I made one. 📿
Then it was time to grab last-minute pasalubong from local shops before heading back to Manila.
Final Thoughts?
It was short, sweet, sandy, and soul filling. The perfect kind of reset after nonstop work.
Mood: Fun, witty, crampy-but-adventurous, with strong tita energy.
Would I go back? Yes, and next time, I might actually stay awake for the night out.
Here’s to detours, beach dips, and growing older with style 🌴🍻✨
